COMPUTED TOMOGRAPHY AND ITS IMPORTANCE The main methods applied include magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), aortography, multidetector computed tomography (MCT) and transthoracic echocardiography (Norwood et al., 2007). Computed tomographic angiography (MCTA) does represent an important alternative to the old invasive contrast X-ray angiography when diagnosing aortic dissection. Kuettner et al ( 2004) suggests that a good example where computed tomography has been applied is in the assessment of abdominal aortic aneurysm morphology after endograft exclusion. An example of aneurysm is the abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA). It is a common disease with an incidence of (1-3)% . Its most serious complication is the rupture that may lead to hypovolemic shock that may also cause irreversible renal injury thus leading to death in 30%-50% of the patients even in other circumstances when rupture is not present (Martuscelli et al., 2004). Clinically, the diagnosis of a ruptured aortic aneurysm is made when there is a pulsating abdominal mass, pain and hypotension is recorded (Norwood et al., 2007). In such circumstance, emergency surgery is carried out without the imaging procedures intervention.
