dementia
Dementia is a chronic disease that can also affect people under the age of 65; it is rare but accounts for 1% of the population (Hodges et al., 2009, ¶2). Dementia presents in many variants such as Alzheimer disease, Vascular dementia, Frontal Lobe dementia and Lewy Body dementia but regardless of the type of the dementia, dementia has a close association with memory loss, personality changes and physical decline. Dementia is irreversible but the symptoms can be alleviated with positive reinforcement, medication management and interventions such as therapy (Hodges et al., 2009., ¶6).
