The world’s population has drastically increased to an all time high standing at approximately 6.1 billion people. This large population has resulted in the overuse, destruction, depletion and degradation of the earths’ resources. Industries and other projects that were initiated to help in the general improvement of human lifestyles have become a disaster resulting to global warming, effluent discharge into water bodies and land, release of gases that cause acid rain etc. All these effects have had a great impact on the quality and quantity of environmental resources. ... groups are therefore unable to convince decision makers and the general public on how policies affect their environment ant their life in general. Lack of research also hinders the prediction and sitting of environmental problems, and hence policies that might have halted, prevented or reversed the problems are not implemented in time, consequently leading to destruction of the environment.
o Not all groups will have financial and technical resources to bring costly legal actions, particularly where they run the risk of having to bear the other sides cost.
o Not all pressure groups will be able to challenge decisions made by planning authorities, the pollution regulatory authorities or the minister concerned by means of judicial review actions because of the difficulties in proving that they have a locus standi.
